McDonald’s Failed Attempt to Grab the “Urban” Market
In my opinion, and I’ve had this opinion for a while, all those who say they are “Urban Marketers” or that companies and brands need to attract an “Urban Market” need to be slowly burned with matchsticks. If they think throwing in a fake rapper or having a street dance sequence is a sure way of attracting “urban” aka black and latino inner-city youth, then you clearly have no clue as to what is happening in America.
So here’s McDonalds with their new series of commercials. They teamed up with this site Dollar Van Demos where people record music demos in NYC’s famous dollar vans. They’re featuring rappers and singers performing a song about the McDonalds Dollar Menu. The first ad features a rapper/singer/violinist of sorts named Joya Bravo.
I’m pretty sure Burrell Communications is behind this one. Doesn’t look like McDonald’s has come very far from the rapping chicken nuggets.
